The Dodge. With the slant 6. I want more power so I can merge and pass people on the interstate. I've been trying to figure this out for weeks now.
I have a friend that will help me weld up a header. I plan on getting a 4 barrel intake manifold off Summit but that's about all I have planed for now. I think 2 barrel carb should be good but I don't know what will be needed to tune it for boost and I don't know what turbo to use. There are plenty of mounting places, I think I'm just going to use bigger bolts and put something off the power steering pump mounting points.
What turbo should I use? I need it to be on the cheaper side, preferably used. I don't need tons of boost, just enough to be more modern. I also plan on keeping the original trans (which I've heard could take a bit of power) and the original rear.
Blowing through the carb is the big hurdle.

Are the internals forged? If not, don't buy a turbo. Just get a better cam, distributor, coil, and some headers.

How come? If you're not going for too much boost, stock internals should be good. Provided they're not cast-iron-piston truck internals...

I'd swap to a 4 bbl before trying to push more air through a restrictibe 2bbl.
Swap the intake and carb, add free flowing exhaust, upgrade to hotter ignition should see some big gains. I wouldn't cam it unless its still a little on the low side of performance still

Super Six
Hyper-pak (for shits and giggles)

Go to the junk yard and steal (buy) a Garret t3 and intercooler from a turbo thunderbird.

what you said at the end there.

My brother used to have a 66 Dart. I built a 318 LA engine w/ Magnum (modern truck 5.2) heads and swapped that in his Dart. That solved the slant-6-has-no-power problem. Your 904 trans is decently strong. Your 7.25 rear is not going to take the power though. We swapped rears when we did the v8 swap.

There is a 69 Chrysler 500 at my local scrap yard that has the 8 3/4 in the rear.
If I get the mounts can't I just take a 318 from a 80s dodge truck and then mount it right up? I'm ok loosing power steering.
I really have no experience swapping engines or building them.

You can get v8 motor mounts for that car (you could get a 273 v8 in a narrow body A body from the factory) and you can get 273 exhaust manifolds. The exhaust routing was not fun, there is not a lot of room in an a body. We did a full dual exhaust that was welded up from a box of pre made bends.
An 8.75 C body rear is going to be about a mile too wide and the spring perches are in the wrong place. I don't think there are any 8.25 or larger factory mopar rears that fit that car w/o massive custom work. A Ford maverick/Comet 8" was a direct fit width wise, and the perches were in the right place. We found a 3.00 ratio Ford 8" for maybe $150 when that car went together. The driveshaft was custom and we used conversion u joints to match up w/ the Ford sized U joint at the back.
Here are a few pictures and videos of his car. I wish we had taken more pictures of it.

(I have no idea what the story is on that Rambler? rally lookin-mess of a car that is in some of the pictures)

I figured it'd be too wide. I also figured I couldn't fit the 44o in there ether.
But will a newer truck 318 mount right up to my 904? And what should I do to the front suspension? Just crank up the torsion bars so it's not dragging?

Sourcing 273 torsion bars would be ideal but with the slant 6 t bars in the car, it was still fine, it sat like so
A Magnum 5.2 from a truck would bolt up to a V8 904 or 727 trans. Your slant 6 trans will only fit the slant 6. You will also need to get a carb intake manifold for a 5.2 magnum engine if that's what you want to use. Our 318 was a "hybrid", the old style (LA) block with Magnum heads on it. Because my brother was young and didn't have a lot of money when we built this thing, he got a Chinese "Crosswinds" edelbrock knock off carb Magnum manifold. It was kind of a piece of crap but it worked.

I think I just found a 1967 318 on Craigslist.
